The Presidential Internship in Higher Education is designed to give undergraduate students from diverse fields and backgrounds the opportunity to interact with the University administration, and learn about leadership and issues in higher education. In turn, the University administration benefits by seeing and experiencing the student perspective. A Presidential Intern is a paid, part-time employee whose main office duties include working as part of an intern cohort to provide project support to administrators.
Additionally, Presidential Interns have the opportunity of assisting President and Mrs. Young and members of his staff at various campus events. Interns will also be involved in planning and attending an academic-year-long seminar program designed to examine higher education issues and leadership through readings, discussion and meetings with University and community leaders.
The Presidential Internship in Higher Education program is looking for a small, diverse group of individuals who will represent the University of Utah well among its constituents, are interested in learning more about higher education issues and challenges in the state and nation, are committed to serving the University community, and will contribute to projects as assigned by administrators.
To qualify for this internship, a student must:
· Exhibit an interest in higher education, the University of Utah and its larger community
· Have experience working as a member of a group in order to meet specified goals
· Have academic standing as a sophormore, junior or senior by the end of Spring Semester 2010
· Have completed at least one academic year as a University of Utah student
· Have a minimum 3.25 cumulative University of Utah GPA by the end of Fall Semester 2009
· Make an academic-year-long commitment: August 2010 to May 2010
· Commit to 10-12 hours of office work per week and up to a possible 3 additional hours per week spent hosting University events (event hosting requirements will vary from week to week)
· Commit to attend weekly seminars with University and community leaders
Applications must be hand delivered to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, Room 206 of the Park Building no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010. Finalists will be contacted to set up an interview no later than Wednesday, March 10, 2010; final decisions will be made no later than Friday, March 19, 2010.
Simmon's Schoarship: Now Open Oct
The Simmon's Scholarship is targeted toward single-parent students. Please make information available to interested parties.
General Qualifications:
1. Submit a complete application by 3:00 pm, November 14th , 2008.
2. Must have and maintain a cumulative 2.7 GPA
3. Be a resident of the state of Utah
4. Be admitted to the University of Utah working on a BA/BS/BFA (applies only to undergraduate).
5. Be admitted to a graduate program (applies only to graduate students)
6. Be a non-traditional student
a. The Women’s Resource Center defines a non-traditional student as:
i. A student 25 years of age , or older, who is either starting school for the first time or returning after having a significant break in their education.
ii. Rezoomers = students who are returning to college after a significant break in their education.
7. Be a matriculated student at the University of Utah
8. Attend the mandatory Donor Appreciation Reception on Monday, March 30th, 2009.
9. Must be a single-parent.
Indian Health Professions Scholarship
Indian Health Service (IHS) has announced an estimated $14.0 million will be available for FY 2009 awards for the Indian Health Professions Preparatory, Indian HealthProfessions Pregraduate and Indian Health Professions Scholarship Programs,Fulldetails / application requirements
The Health Professions Preparatory Scholarship awards aremade to American Indians (Federally recognized Tribal members, first and second degree descendants of Tribal members, and state recognized Tribal members, first and second degree descendants of Tribal members), or Alaska Natives who:
Ø Have successfully completed high school
education or high school equivalency;Ø Have been accepted for enrollment in a
compensatory, pre-professional general education course or curriculum; and The Health Pregraduate Scholarship awards are made to American Indians (Federally recognized Tribal members, first and second degree descendants of Tribal members, and state recognized Tribal members, first and second degree descendants of Tribal members), or Alaska Natives who:Ø Have successfully completed high school
education or high school equivalency; andØ Have been accepted for enrollment or are
enrolled in an accredited pregraduate program leading to a baccalaureate degree in pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-podiatry or pre-optometry.The Indian Health Professions Scholarship may be awarded only to an individual who is a member of a Federally recognized Indian Tribe or Alaska Native as provided by section 4(c) and 4(d) of the IHCIA. Membership in a Tribe recognized only by a state does not meet this statutory requirement. To receive an Indian Health Professions Scholarship, an otherwise eligible individualmust be enrolled in an appropriately accredited school and pursuing a course of study in a health profession as defined by section 4(n) of the IHCIA. Criteria
· Full-time Junior or Senior women students at the U of U for Academic year 2009-2010
· Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater
· Any academic discipline
· Attend the UUWC Scholarship Luncheon
